Shon Mitchell is Record Setting!

Oscar Smith quarterback Shon Mitchell has passed his way into the Virginia High School League Record Book.

Mitchell, a junior, has thrown for 7,502 career yards – including postseason games – and sits 10th all-time in the VHSL. Mitchell entered this season with 5,152 career yards and has thrown for 2,350 heading into Oscar Smith’s 6A South Region championship game against Thomas Dale. The game is 2 p.m. at Oscar Smith, and the winner earns a spot in the Group 6A state championship the following Saturday at U.Va.

Mitchell could enter next season with a chance to chase down the all-time leader: former Oscar Smith QB Phillip Sims, who threw for 10,725 yards through 2009.
